On 9th September, Native Land celebrated the topping out of Arbor, an 18-storey office building and the first building to come through on our Bankside Yards project.
A landmark 1.4 m sq ft development which connects London’s South Bank with Bankside for the first time in 150 years. Marking a major milestone, the ceremony was an exciting moment in our wider vision to deliver the UK’s first fossil-fuel free major mixed-use development.
The formal topping out ceremony was hosted by contractor Multiplex, and attended by the wider project teams, including PLP Architecture, Ingleby Trice LLP, and Knight Frank, DP9, Core Five, Gardiner & Theobald, Stiff & Trevillion and AKT. Held on the 18th floor and with impressive views across the city, the event provided the perfect opportunity for Native Land and the wider teams to come together to celebrate this achievement.
Arbor is set to become a future workplace when it completes next year, totalling 230,000 sq ft and set above Bankside Yards’ 14 historic railway arches. Designed with occupier wellness in mind, Arbor offers an inspiring triple height reception, multiple six-metre-high collaboration areas and civic-scale spaces filled with light in which people can feel ambitious and forward thinking. While Bankside Yards’ energy-efficient technology will be executed on an unprecedented scale and ensure Arbor operates without the use of fossil fuels.

Arbor topping out ceremony
Speaking of the occasion, Jay Squier, Managing Director of Commercial & Mixed-Use at Native Land, said: “Bankside Yards is a new £2.5 billion city neighbourhood in the heart of London, delivering eight new buildings set around the restoration of 14 striking historic railway arches. Arbor is the first of these to top out and marks an important milestone for the project, the UK’s first major regeneration scheme with zero emissions in operation. When Arbor completes next year it will reset the standard for quality, innovation, and sustainability in the office sector.”
On completion and alongside Arbor, Bankside Yards will include 50,000 sq ft of amenities, bars, restaurants and cultural space, a 5* urban resort hotel, further office space and 3.3 acres of new public realm. The development will also deliver more than 700 apartments, including homes for private sale and rent.
